    BACKGROUND

AstraZeneca - Health Connects Us All

As one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, our business is focused on providing innovative, effective medicines that make a real difference in important areas of healthcare. At AstraZeneca, innovation is about more than just research. We aim to stimulate continued creativity throughout our organisation by maintaining a culture in which our people feel valued, energised and rewarded for their ideas and contribution to our success – ideas which can make a difference in all aspects of our business. And we support and encourage our people in discovering their own potential, through excellent learning and development opportunities that are available to them throughout their careers.

    The next generation of medicines.
How will you take them even further?

At AstraZeneca, we're constantly striving to make new discoveries. Discoveries that will make a meaningful difference to health globally. We already have an exceptional product pipeline, and everyone here has a part to play in making sure that pipeline fulfils its potential. This is your opportunity to join them – and to fulfil your own.

Within the Oncology Innovative Medicines unit (iMED) at Alderley Park UK, the Bioinformatics and Genomics groups support the drug discovery process from conception of new ideas through to early clinical application. Our research is focused on the generation and interrogation of cancer genomic data, linking molecular signatures of drug target pathway activation and dependency to specific disease segments.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Oncology Bioinformatics and Genomics
    • The Bioinformatics team is undertaking a significant expansion and is seeking highly motivated and talented computational biologists to fill Scientist, Senior Scientist and Principal Scientist roles. The successful candidates will have an ambition to work in a cross-disciplinary team environment and translate discoveries into testable hypotheses. By engaging with drug discovery project teams and external collaborators you will identify bespoke informatics solutions to scientific problems, delivering new capabilities to the group.
    • Transcriptomics is critical to the Oncology iMED. We are seeking highly talented gene expression experts to work closely with project scientists and statisticians in the design, delivery and analysis of associated data in Senior Scientist roles. Alongside performing your own laboratory experiments, you will manage outsourcing of laboratory studies. The successful candidates will also be expected to develop expert knowledge of current and emerging platform technologies and drive their implementation.
Through generation, integration and analysis of molecular data in tumours and associated models, successful candidates will collectively advance drug target pathway understanding, identify candidate biomarkers for personalised healthcare and aid the discovery of new drug targets.

The roles will provide access to a wide range of resources and expertise through which you will advance your scientific and discipline learning. Publication of scientific results and interaction with the external scientific community will be encouraged.
