    BACKGROUND

    We are a federally-funded, Boston-based, biomedical research organization. Our Biomedical Informatics Team performs research and development to improve the way clinical science and care are conducted. Current initiatives include the development of natural language processing and machine learning technologies, methods of automated clinical quality measurement and improvement, and the development of computational platform for integrative analysis of genomic, biosample and clinical data. The multi-disciplinary team consists of a highly skilled group of PhD researchers, clinicians, systems analysts, project managers, and software developers. Resources include access to the complete medical records of over 18 million records through the world's largest installed electronic medical record system, a new 160 node high performance computing cluster, and access to incredibly challenging projects with the potential to change the way health care is delivered.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Work in a team that is involved in prototyping, developing and testing enterprise class systems, applications and interfaces for a national biomedical research resource.
    • Will need to have the capability and flexibility to work in a fast pace environment.
    • Responsible for designing and developing complex data management, workflows and data analysis systems that support clinical, genomic and translational research.
    • Work collaboratively with business analyst, scientists and other subject matter experts and translate business requirements into enterprise software systems.
    • Work hands-on with new tools and technologies, researching, networking with developer communities/forums and building innovative solutions using open source as well as commercial products.
    • Build custom applications, implement/customize open source/COTS products to meet business requirements.
    • Perform in-depth evaluation and make technical recommendations.
    • Develop software following an agile development process.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 2-5 years of experience developing web or enterprise applications
    • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, MS preferred
    • Minimum 2 years experience developing web applications in Java
    • Hands on experiences with Spring, Hibernate, Struts, GRAILS or other web frameworks
    • Hands on experience with AJAX, Javascript, HTML, CSS, XML
    • Good understanding of J2EE and core technologies including JSP, JMS, JAXB
    • Good understanding of RDMS and SQL
    • Excellent problem identification, analysis and solving skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Self-Starter, Willingness to learn various technical skills, Resourceful

    PREFERENCES

    • Database / data warehouse development experience
    • Experience in clinical and/or genomic data sets )
    • Familiarity with biomedical research, research or a related industry
