    BACKGROUND

    The Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University (http://cii.columbia.edu) is recruiting for the position of Senior Programmer Analyst to join our team as a core member of the bioinformatics team for the center. The bioinformatics group provides a broad range of support, from biological database development to microarray and next-generation sequencing based analysis projects. In addition, the team develops, and maintains a data sharing web portal that supports 65 investigators at Columbia and a global network of researchers who work on projects related to infectious disease surveillance and discovery in humans and wildlife. Principal partners include the World Health Organization, PanAmerican Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, EcoHealth Alliance and Wildlife Conservation Society.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The individual will contribute to development of data analysis pipelines for high-density viral microarrays, high throughput pyro-sequencing data, maintenance of research databases containing diverse experimental data, and administration of the Linux servers, when needed. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Perl/BioPerl and MySQL (experience in Linux administration and web development is desirable.). The individual will perform other related duties as assigned.

    Duties:
    • Contribute to development of data analysis pipelines for high-density viral microarrays and high throughput pyro-sequencing data - 40%
    • Maintain research databases containing diverse experimental data - 25%
    • Administer Linux servers - 15%
    • Knowledge of Perl/BioPerl and MySQL (experience in Linux administration and web development is desirable) - 15%
    • Perform other related duties as assigned - 5%

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Requires a bachelor's degree in a biological science, bioinformatics, or computer science and at least four years experience in bioinformatics.
    • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a full background check prior to a final offer of employment being made.
