    BACKGROUND

    The Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor HGSC) is one of three large-scale sequencing centers funded by National Institutes of Health. As one of the three major centers in the United States, Baylor HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work with cutting edge genomic science. We continuously seek individuals who are looking to work in a diverse research environment that supports ongoing genomics research, improvements in sequencing technology and genome analysis.

    As DNA sequencing technologies have improved over the last few years the rate of sequence production has increased exponentially, transforming DNA sequencing and dramatically increasing the computational requirements for sequence production. To handle the day-to-day processing of this data we are currently seeking a Production Data Analyst who will be responsible for data flow though some aspects of the sequence analysis production pipeline.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties will involve supporting automated pipeline processes, maintaining, developing, and running analysis scripts, tracking project data, and providing analysis support to a wide range of sequencing projects. There will be extensive interaction with the laboratory, sequence production, and software engineering groups within the HGSC, and also with a wide variety of external scientific collaborators.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • The successful candidate should be highly motivated, deeply interested in high-performance computing, and willing to learn in a fast paced environment. Experience in computing or bioinformatics is desired.
    • A basic understanding of genomic data sets (DNA sequence, copy number or expression) is advantageous.
    • In this position, the candidate will need to demonstrate independent thinking and have close interactions with other members of the Center.
    • Scientific computing experience, UNIX familiarity, and excellent communication skills are also necessary for this position.

    PREFERENCES

    • Desirable skills and experience include: A degree in quantitative science, experience with UNIX shell script, Ruby, Java, and/or PBS, and a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
