    BACKGROUND

    Located in Austin, TX, Seralogix is a systems biology bioinformatics and research company with a mission to make breakthrough medical discoveries for diagnosing and treating diseases of high public health concern. Seralogix is developing state-of-the-art computational systems biology methods and tools in one of the fastest moving fields today.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are seeking computational biologists/software programmers with strong mathematical background to support research and development of computationally intensive systems biology software employing a variety of algorithms including machine learning and Bayesian techniques. The successful applicant will be responsible for new algorithmic development, software implementation, contributing to publications, grant writing, and interacting with Seralogix's clients.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • The candidate should be fluent in one or more programming languages that include Java, C++, R, SQL and Perl, and familiarity with Adobe Flex/Flash Actionscript, PHP, and MATLAB a plus.
    • Proven ability to design and implement computational algorithms, user interfaces, APIs.
    • Installing, configuring, and maintaining RDBMSs and developing software using RDBMS APIs.
    • Candidate should have hands on experience with Linux and Microsoft operating systems.
    • The candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and apply methods and procedures to accomplish research and development objectives. The ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to:
      • Develop scientific-based software independently and in a team environment.
      • Design and implement statistical and probability algorithms
      • Communicate the algorithms and/or results to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    PREFERENCES

    • Preferred candidate background is in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, math, biophysics or statistics with a variety of combinations of degree and experience being considered (BS/MS with directly applicable industry experience or PhD with applicable postdoc).
    • Experience in bioinformatics, systems biology, data mining or pattern recognition is important.
    • Candidate should ideally have familiarity with genomics, proteomics and metabolomics and have some experience in microarray, mass spec, and next generation sequencing data processing and analysis.
