The use of regular expression based pattern matching is a growing trend in the biomedical research community, and I am in the process of creating a freely available (creative commons license) listing of the regular expressions used in the biomedical literature in order to make such information readily available to the bioinformatics community. The current listing is still quite limited as the compilation effort has just started, but the listing will be regularly updated.
