    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Codexis is seeking candidates for the position of Bioinformatics Software Engineer. The selected candidate will work as part of a team to develop information systems to support the development of biobased solutions for the low carbon economy.

    Duties:
    • Develop software for deployment, execution, and management of R&D software systems.
    • Identify, test, and optimize bioinformatics software tools and protocols.
    • Work closely with lab scientists and fellow group members to identify, develop and maintain informatics workflows.
    • Provide support to all levels of the scientific staff.
    • Train users on new and existing systems and features.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related subject and 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
    • Ability to operate in UNIX/Linux & Windows environments.
    • Strong knowledge of one or more programming languages such as Java, Perl, C++, C# and one or more relational database management systems.
    • Strong knowledge of modern software engineering development best practices and object oriented design.
    • Deep knowledge and expertise in data management and user interface design.
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics tool development and biological data and systems analysis.
    • Familiarity with probability, statistics, machine learning and/or data mining.
    • Conversant with molecular biologists, analytical biochemists, and metabolic/cellular engineers and familiarity of the science behind these disciplines.
    • Ability to keep current with emerging software and programming technologies/techniques.
    • Ability to support production data management and software pipeline operation.
    • Familiarity with object-oriented analysis and programming.
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools such as sequence similarity, assembly, and alignment tools.
    • Ability to assess and develop software that interacts with analytical equipment: HPLC, MS, LC-MS, etc.
    • Ability to use advanced software tools in an innovative fashion to address systems, data analysis and data presentation problems.
    • Knowledge of methods for storing, analyzing, and presenting large data sets, especially those related to transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and genomics.
    • Excellent knowledge of object-oriented design & development.
    • Proficiency in automated unit and system test frameworks and strategies.
    • Proficiency with various activities of the software development process including requirements capture, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
    • Expertise in automated unit and system test frameworks and strategies.
    • Ability to work independently and with other members of the scientific and engineering staff to gather requirements and implement systems.
    • Ability to perform data modeling and database design.
    • Ability to develop and implement algorithms for data analysis.
    • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
