    RESPONSIBILITIES
    SAIC-Frederick is currently recruiting for a Bioinformatics Manager (200801) to support our Information Systems Program Directorate at our Bethesda, Maryland location.

    Responsible for leading a team of motivated bioinformatics analysts in a new bioinformatics core providing central support to the US National Cancer Institute Center for Cancer Research. As a key part of the scientific discovery process, work to innovate, provide analysis, integration and interpretation of biomedical data related to cancer research including next-generation sequencing data, microarray data, as well as proteomics and other 'omics data sources. Provide biological interpretation of analysis results including mutation impact assessment, expression analysis, prioritization of identified loci/gene lists and correlation with data from both mainstream and cutting-edge experimental methods. Manage staff providing similar types of assistance in an exciting multi-project, interdisciplinary environment supporting leading cancer research across multiple research interests. Coordinate, integrate and utilize applications and databases resulting from existing efforts of The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC) across the Bethesda, Frederick, Rockville and Gaithersburg NCI campuses.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Possession of a Masters degree from an accredited college/university in a bioinformatics or a related field. Ph.D. degree preferred. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.
    • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in bioinformatics is required along with one (1) year prior supervisory experience
    • The candidate must possess experience in sequence analysis, microarray analysis and experience with analysis of large genomic data sets including integration with data available from public sources
    • Hands-on experience in processing and analyzing genomic, expression and other array data including polymorphism discovery and impact assessment are also essential
    • Hands-on experience with commercial and open-source bioinformatics and genomics analysis software is required.
    • Experience working in a team-oriented environment and excellent communication skills are also required
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in managing bioinformatics projects, project tracking, and upstream experimental design
    • Experience in molecular biology technologies
    • Experience in statistical analysis of high throughput biological data using R
    • Experience in data integration, database construction, application development and visualization
    Proficiency in Unix (linux), batch HPC environments, scripting, and programming is highly desirable.
