    BACKGROUND

    We are a federally-funded, Boston-based, biomedical research organization. Our Biomedical Informatics Team develops next generation software applications and analytical tools and Data Warehouses to improve the way translational research is conducted and clinical care is delivered. Current initiatives include GenISIS, an informatics platform that will support the Million Veterans Program (MVP). GenISIS is a computational platform for integration and analysis of clinical, biospecimen and genomic data.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide technical leadership for data integration from various clinical application and stores, research databases and files including 'omics data and external sources.
    • Works collaboratively with business analysts and translates business requirements into enterprise information architecture and associated policies and processes to meet research requirements
    • Develops conceptual, logical and physical data models to support collection, integration, and analysis of clinical and genomic research data
    • Develops the architecture for staging area, data warehouse, data marts, and operational data stores
    • Maps data to appropriate biomedical data standards as necessary
    • Leads development of metadata management strategy
    • Works with database administrators in migrating applications into development, test and production environments
    • Performs Data warehouse capacity planning
    • Ensures data quality and data governance
    • Works with database administrators and application developers to ensure ease-of-use, performance, integrity and security (Ability to debug/troubleshoot/tune SQL queries and work with application developer to resolve database related performance issues)

    REQUIREMENTS

    • BS in Computer Science or related field, MS a plus
    • Proven ability to design scalable solutions using traditional and agile methods
    • Extensive knowledge of data warehouse design (Star, Snowflake, normalized verses denormalized, referential integrity, etc.)
    • Minimum of 2 years experience in the design, build, deployment, and maintenance of an Enterprise Data Warehouse
    • 2-5 years managing databases from planning and testing stages through implementation and support
    • Experience with scripting languages such as JavaScript, VBScript, PERL, etc that are commonly used for transferring / translating data to and from disparate data sources
    • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server and mySQL
    • Experience with data modeling tools like ERwin
    • Experience with ETL tools like Pentaho, Informatica etc.
    • Knowledge of Systems Architecture principles and processes.
    • Knowledge of Business Requirements definition and documentation
    • Demonstrable experience in database performance tuning
    • Detailed understanding of database schema objects including tables, views, packages, procedures, sequences, indexes, and constraints
    • Experience in XML schema definition
    • Some experience working with clinical and/or genomic data is a plus.
    • Excellent presentation and communication skills
