    BACKGROUND

    We are a federally-funded, Boston-based, biomedical research organization. Our Biomedical Informatics Team develops next generation software applications and analytical tools and Data Warehouses to improve the way translational research is conducted and clinical care is delivered. Current initiatives include GenISIS, an informatics platform that will support the Million Veterans Program (MVP). GenISIS is a computational platform for integration and analysis of clinical, biospecimen and genomic data. The multi-disciplinary team consists of a biomedical researchers, clinicians, systems analysts, project managers, and software developers. Resources include data from the world's largest installed electronic medical record system, a new 160 node high performance computing cluster, and access to incredibly challenging projects with the potential to change the way health care is delivered.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Designs and develops data integration, analysis and visualization systems that support Biomedical translational research projects
    • Ensures that the design, development and implementation of software systems are robust and meet performance, security and access requirements
    • Researches, identifies and uses new tools and technologies to build innovative biomedical informatics software solutions using open source as well as commercial vendor sourced products
    • Works with the BA/Researchers and determines specifications
    • Makes recommendations on tools and design practices
    • Continuously communicates risks and deficiencies in plans and implementations to group leader
    • Creates unit tests and integration tests and fixes any defects
    • Applies appropriate Enterprise Architecture concepts, approaches and frameworks to address project objectives

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field. Masters a plus
    • Strong Object Oriented Design and Development background: UML Design, expert at object modeling, relational (data) modeling, object to relational model translation, mapping, and implementation expertise
    • 5+ years Java 2 Enterprise Experience; 2+ years software development experience as lead developer in hands-on design, development, deployment, QA and iterative release engineering
    • System integration experience with off the shelf and open sourced applications, custom packaging 3rd party connectivity adapters and toolsets
    • Demonstrable experience in SDLC, with experience in understanding, interpreting, and rationalizing user requirements into actionable build items for development of critical components
    • Significant expertise with the following Java technologies: EJBs, Session/Entity Beans, XML, JSP, JDBC, JDOM, Web Services (SOAP)
    • Frameworks: Swing, Hibernate, Struts
    • Knowledge of IDE - Eclipse
    • Knowledge of Ant, Maven, JAXB
    • Experience with Agile development methodologies
    • Experience in deployment and release engineering processes using open source tools
    • Experience with XML, XSLT transformations, SAX and DOM Parsers a plus
    • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL
