BACKGROUND
The Bioinformatics Team in Pioneer Wilmington location is primarily responsible for supporting Crop Genetic Research. The primary responsibility of this position is to perform application development, data modeling, project management, as well as provide input on the team's software development framework.RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop bioinformatics applications using various software platforms and appropriate client-server models. Design and construct large scale data analysis and management pipelines. Perform data modeling and implement those models in support of research projects. Operate independently within the team's development framework. Interact with senior research scientists to define project strategy, and future projects. May evaluate and recommend technology for hardware and software environment necessary to support bioinformatics and research. May help with some system administration and support.REQUIREMENTS
PhD in computer science or related field and minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience preferred. Master's degree in computer science or related field and minimum of 6 to 8 years industry related experience required. Post doc experience may count as related experience.PREFERENCES
Knowledge of web application programming languages, frameworks, and related techniques. Knowledge of bioinformatics, and related computational and statistical methods. Advanced experience in application architecture and software design. Advanced programming skill in Java, Perl, Python, and Shells. Database experience on Sybase, Oracle, PostGres, or MySQL. Ability to convert scientific models into computing algorithms. Experience with data analysis pipelines, grid computing or distributed computing (LSF, MPI, OpenMP, or Hadoop) desirable. Knowledge of genomics, genetics, or biostatistics is a plus. Experience with web server administration (Apache, Glassfish, TomCat) and web services (SOAP, REST, XM./XSL) desirable. Asked to design, develop, and implement a research analysis pipeline and provide visualization tools for the results. Implement a process or share data across multiple platforms and geographically distant locations. Determine whether to directly access, mirror, or replicate research results from geographically distance locations. Implement strategy to pursue for a major research analysis project. Strong teamwork and communication skills, must be able to collaborate directly with researchers and statisticians.LOCALE
