    BACKGROUND

    Founded in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is a private, independent institution committed to the advancement of health. The College has academic programs and research activities spanning the full spectrum of pharmacy and health sciences from drug discovery to patient care. Nearly 1,600 ACPHS students are pursuing a wide range of career pathways in health related fields through degree programs in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology and health and human sciences. The College's main campus is located in Albany, New York; its satellite campus is in Colchester, Vermont.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

    The School of Health Sciences at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Health and/or Biomedical Informatics at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Investigators with expertise in personalized medicine, evidence-based medical practice, genomics and data-mining are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with health and biomedical science data bases, health outcome research, meta-analyses and translational research are required. Applicants must demonstrate a record of research accomplishment based on publications, national recognition, and extramural funding. The School offers undergraduate and graduate programs in biomedical sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Molecular Cytology, Biotechnology and Health Outcomes Research.

    This individual will be part of an interdisciplinary faculty. In the School and College, there is particular interest in health informatics applications relevant to understanding determinants of population and public health, the evaluation of health and therapeutic modalities, and personalized medicine. Experience with electronic health, epidemiological and clinical data mining and evidence-based medicine is highly desirable. Candidates are expected to bring their own area of research and successful experience as a collaborator in multi-disciplinary research teams. A track record of leadership and attracting government and/or private research support is highly desirable. Teaching responsibilities will include two to three courses a year and participation in the health outcome research and informatics curriculum which attracts pharmacists, physicians and other diagnostic professionals.

    Collaborative research opportunities in diagnostic laboratory sciences, pharmaceutics, biomarker identification, toxicology, genomics and epidemiology are available within the College and area institutions, including the NY State Department of Health. The candidate will also contribute to College-wide electives, as well as supervise graduate thesis research.     The candidate must have an earned doctorate and post-doctorate experience and a proven record of publication and extramural funding.
