    BACKGROUND

    We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a bioinformatics postdoctoral scientist position in the laboratory of Dr. Bjoern Peters. The laboratory applies bioinformatics techniques to cutting edge problems in immunology, with a focus on understanding immune recognition. The research questions for the present position center around understanding the role of T cell immune recognition in allergic rhinitis and asthma. What are the molecular components in grass allergens that are recognized by T cells of allergic and asthmatic patients? Can we determine a distinct molecular signature of disease in these T cells? Why do regulatory T cells fail to suppress these responses?

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The candidate will work on unique, large-scale transcriptomics, genetic, and epigenomics datasets generated in the Kronenberg, Sette, and Rao laboratories at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (LIAI). Ideal postdoctoral candidates will have a strong background in bioinformatics with emphasis on `omics' data analysis, good communication skills, and a high level of enthusiasm to engage with experimental scientists.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or related field
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis
    • Experience with microarray data analysis
    • Programming skills (Perl, Python, Java, R)
    • Familiarity with Linux/UNIX
    • Familiarity with relational database systems (MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, etc.)
    • Immunology knowledge is highly desirable
    • Familiarity with semantic web technologies (OWL, SPARQL, etc.) is desirable
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to multitask
