    BACKGROUND

    A successful candidate will have experience with Windows XP, UNIX or Linux, Perl and SQL and any Web scripting languages such as PHP, JSP, ASP, JavaScript, HTML, or etc.; familiarity in C++, Java, and Visual Basic; a working knowledge in any DBMS such as Oracle, Sybase, MySQL, PostgrSQL, or SQL server also desired.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Programmer/Analyst job in the lab of Dr. Marylyn Ritchie at Penn State. We are looking for an experienced Programmer to modify/maintain complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer; work from specifications to develop or modify moderately complex software programming applications; assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs. Applications generally deal with utility programs, job control language, macros, subroutines and other control modules. Candidates should be competent to work on most phases of software systems programming applications, but may require instruction and guidance in other phases. May be asked to take the lead on projects and instruct, direct, or teach other members of group. This job will be filled as a level 3 or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's education and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs.
