    BACKGROUND

    The Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor HGSC) is one of three large-scale sequencing centers funded by National Institutes of Health. As one of the three major centers in the United States, Baylor HGSC provides a unique opportunity to work with cutting edge genomic science. We continuously seek individuals who are looking to work in a diverse research environment that supports ongoing genomics research, improvements in sequencing technology and genome analysis.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As DNA sequencing technologies have improved over the last few years the rate of sequence production has increased exponentially, transforming DNA sequencing and dramatically increasing the computational requirements for sequence production. To handle the day-to-day processing of this data we are currently seeking a Production Data Analyst who will be responsible for data flow though aspects of the sequence analysis production pipeline.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Initiation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of analysis software in support of an automated high-throughput sequencing pipeline.
    • Proactively providing data analysis support to multiple sequencing projects.
    • Coordination of data flow with the sample preparation, sequence production, and a wide variety of external scientific collaborators.
    • Tracking project data and reporting analysis results.
    • Collaboration with the software engineering groups to define software requirements.
    • Ability to plan and organize detailed projects with multiple tasks and deadlines
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
    Skills:
    • A degree in quantitative science (bioinformatics, molecular biology, physics, etc)
    • Broad knowledge of biology, especially genetics
    • Experience with large genomic data sets (Next-generation sequence, genotyping, or expression data), data mining, and data analysis.
    • Experience with UNIX and cluster computing
    • Perl, Ruby, or other scripting development experience
    • Experience with trouble ticket systems
    • Demonstrated independent thinking and problem solving ability.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
