    BACKGROUND

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position with a joint appointment in the Faculties of Medicine and Science with membership in both the Institute for Biocomplexity and Informatics (http://www.ibi.ucalgary.ca) and the Alberta Children's Research Institute for Child and Maternal Health (http://www.ucalgary.ca/research4kids).

The IBI and ACHRI are interdisciplinary institutes reporting to the Deans of Science and Medicine respectively. The University of Calgary is a top-ten Canadian research-intensive institution with a commitment to interdisciplinary experiential learning.

Calgary, Alberta is the energy capital of Canada and is known for its entrepreneurial can-do spirit. The successful candidate will find an ambitious and forward-looking research environment only a little more than an hour's drive from the Canadian Rockies.

    REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a systems mindset and significant accomplishments commensurate with career stage. We are seeking outstanding candidates who would compete for exceptional support from Alberta Innovates (http://www.albertainnovates.ca) and potentially from the Canada Research Chairs program (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca). The Alberta Innovates Academy is a unique body of some forty research Chairs, Professors and Scholars who are working at the forefront of science, engineering and medicine.

    COMPENSATION

The position corresponds to a very promising Assistant or Associate Professor. Appointment will be contingent upon a successful application for 5-year AI funding. Exceptional candidates may also be supported in an application to the CRC program. These funding sources will provide exceptional early- to mid-career support. Cross-appointment in appropriate Departments in both Faculties is expected. We will accept applications in bioinformatics, defined broadly, with preference for candidates with proven research excellence related to genetic regulatory networks.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within an emerging Alberta genomics initiative, and help to build bioinformatics capacity in the Province, with the potential for additional recruits in bioinformatics and genetics through other sources within the institution that would complement this initiative. Work at the nexus of theory/computation and experiment will be viewed favorably.

    HOW TO APPLY

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; however, applications will be looked at as they are received. Please provide a full C.V., research and teaching statements, and the names and email addresses of three referees to:
