BACKGROUND
The Center for Plant Science Innovation, University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks applications for post doctoral research scientists to work on bioinformatic data analysis, phylogenomics, epigenetics and methylome analysis, evolutionary comparative genomics and systems biology. Systems range from the model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana, to economically important crop species to ecological model plants.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidates will conduct computational biology research on diverse projects led by Dr. Sally Mackenzie, in epigenomics, and Dr. Jeff Mower, in comparative evolutionary genomics. The candidates will work collaboratively with plant molecular biologists, and will also be responsible for assisting in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and in developing new areas of research. Appointment is for two years with a possibility of extension.REQUIREMENTS
- PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Biostatistics or related fields
- Proven skills in programming (Perl, R, C/C++) and experience with Linux/Unix environments
- Practical experience of high throughput data analysis, data management, data mining/ integration.
- Practical experience of bioinformatic data analysis and skills in bioinformatic tools and databases, such as blast, pfam etc.
- Self-motivation with excellent communication skills and an ability to work well in a team environment
PREFERENCES
- Background in molecular biology, molecular evolution and/or genetics is preferred.
