Opportunity: Software Engineer / BIOINFORMATICS Scientist (#1160) @ Rothamsted Research--Harpenden, Hertfordshire, UK

BACKGROUND
Rothamsted Research seeks to recruit a Software Engineer or Bioinformatics Scientist to develop a new web-based application to support genetic studies of animal health. The project is an exciting new collaboration with the Roslin Institute (http://www.roslin.ed.ac.uk)
RESPONSIBILITIES
To further develop a web based user interface for our life sciences data integration platform (the Ondex system http://www.ondex.org ) based on a prototype which uses an integrated Ondex knowledge base constructed from farm animal genetic and genomics data together with a range of ontologies, biochemical pathway and scientific literature sources.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will be an experienced web applications programmer familiar with Web 2.0 technologies and able to work in a mixed Windows/Linux environment. Candidates must have a degree in computing, engineering or a biological science with post graduate experience in software development. The ideal candidate will have bioinformatics experience and have worked with genetic or genomic data, building web applications used by scientists. The position is for one year only and would be suitable for a physical scientist or engineer with programming expertise wanting to start a career in bioinformatics.

COMPENSATION
GBP 26,610 to GBP 29,566 per annum
