SUMMARY
Bioinformatics and process pipeline programming to support DNA Sanger sequencing based identification and typing of bacteria and fungi, MALDI TOF mass spec identification of bacteria and fungi, sequencing and MALDI library generation and validation, sample tracking in various lab automation systems, LIMS interfacing, and special projects support.
Software developed will generally involve both Windows-based graphical human interfaces and Internet-based web services.RESPONSIBILITIES

- Apply statistical methods and develop applications for analyzing and providing real-time feedback about sample processing assay performance.
- Provide software support for sample process automation; assist in the rapid prototyping of new services, assays, and concepts.
- Work with the Marketing Department to design, develop, validate and deploy secure customer web portals that make business critical information available to our customers on a real-time basis.
- Work with the Operations Department to design, develop, validate, and deploy compliant and efficient software pipelines for evaluating sample processing quality, producing reliable sample identifications, and generating meaningful and informative sample reports for customers.
- Work with the Information Technology Department to integrate new software systems with existing LIMS and other technology infrastructure.
- Ensure that new software systems are delivered with plans for security, data backup and archiving, document management, and disaster recovery standards.
- Carry out the software development effort according to FDA endorsed GAMP 5 guidelines, documenting all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements, specifications, design, risk assessments, project validation plans and timelines, code development, test plans, test scripts, traceability matrix and qualification protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Work with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure that the overall software development process conforms to FDA guidelines including cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records and signatures, risk assessment, validation, training, configuration management and change control.
REQUIREMENTS
B.S. in Computer Science with a curriculum interest in software development and/or bioinformatics preferred. An advanced degree (M.S. or PhD) and relevant work experience are also preferred, but not required. You should possess strong software development (web applications and .NET applications) and communication skills and a strong aptitude for bioinformatics and computational biology.
Technical Skills:
Ability to develop and use statistical analysis algorithms, principal components and other pattern recognition methods, sequence analysis algorithms, and artificial intelligence algorithms is a plus in this position.
Software Development Skills:
Must have broad-based software development experience. Preferred skills include:
(1) C, Perl, and PHP in UNIX environments
(2) Microsoft Visual Studio Programming (C# and VB) in Windows environments
(3) Web development experience including PHP and/or J2EE technologies (JSP, EJB, Servlets), Web Services technologies (SOAP, SOA, UDDI, WCF), as well as related HTML and AJAX technologies (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, XMLHttpRequest)
(4) Database experience (especially PostgreSQL) and related database access technologies (SQL, ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET)
Must possess current skills in various software development technologies with the ability to learn new software languages and bioinformatics tools easily. Experience in designing database schemas is also preferred.
Communication Skills:
Must be effective in both oral and written communications. Must be proficient at producing quality written documentation, including requirements, specifications, risk assessments, validation plans, test plans, test scripts, and qualification protocols.LOCALE
