    BACKGROUND

    Wake Forest is recruiting a director to build a Center for Biomedical Informatics. This Center will be cross-institutional, integrating resources at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Wake Forest University. It will aim to advance the science of informatics and support multiple initiatives requiring sophisticated informatics solutions, including clinical and translational research and healthcare models.

    The mission of the Wake Forest Center for Biomedical Informatics will be to:
    • Catalyze biomedical discovery and foster better health in our region and across the nation.
    • Integrate and support resources across the spectrum of biomedical informatics.
    • Train the next generation of researchers in biomedical informatics.
    • Provide a bridge among multiple academic programs and institutions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics will have overall responsibility for building a new academic entity. This individual will have access to resources to adequately develop a robust program in biomedical informatics. The director will be responsible for faculty recruitment, research and training program development and will be expected to develop a portfolio of extramurally funded projects emphasizing interdisciplinary informatics research in translational, clinical, public health, and community settings.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The ideal candidate for this faculty opportunity will possess the following qualifications:
    • MD with training in informatics or a PhD in informatics or closely related field
    • An accomplished academic career with a distinguished research record, including publication experience in peer-reviewed informatics literature.
    • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to measure performance and identify goals, assemble and lead effective teams, and achieve and maintain successful implementation of programs.
    • Successful record of research experience with evidence of independent funding; leadership; a strong interest in graduate medical education.
    • Eligibility for rank at the Associate or Professor level
