RESPONSIBILITIES
A position has become available for an experienced and enthusiastic scientist to join Alex Bateman's group. The group organises biological sequence data into a variety of classifications that aid the understanding of biology and evolution. In addition, it produces the Rfam, Pfam, TreeFam and MEROPS database resources that are used worldwide. TreeFam is a key resource for assigning orthology and paralogy relationships within animal genomes. The successful applicant will plan and direct the activities of the TreeFam project as well as carry out original research into the phylogeny and evolution of protein families.REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Bioscience
- PhD in a biological discipline and significant, relevant postdoctoral experience.
- Good publication record and a proven ability to use computers to solve biological problems.
- A proven record of working in the field of phylogeny
- Computer literacy (linux experience)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to manage and motivate a team
- Excellent project and people management skills
PREFERENCES
- Experience of relational databases
- A working knowledge of Perl and MySQL
Less experienced scientists who do not meet all the essential requirements will be considered and the salary will reflect their experience, skills and qualification.LOCALE
