    BACKGROUND

    LabConnect has an immediate opening for a Bioinformatics Contractor to support a top 10 Pharma client. This is a work from home opportunity, therefore candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S., however periodic travel is required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and bioinformatics support for our client's therapeutic products and candidates. You will work in close collaboration with scientists in Biomarkers, Discovery, and Clinical Development and will: 1) Analyze and integrate high dimensional data from a variety of platforms including gene expression, SNP, next-generation sequencing, large serum protein screenings, and immunohistochemistry. 2) Provide data analysis and statistical support to identify diseases mechanisms, mode of action for therapeutic interventions, and candidate biomarkers. 3) Build, analyze, and interpret biological networks from disparate data sources.

    You must possess the ability to communicate results in an appropriate biological context, and present results to bench scientists, clinicians, and management. You will participate on multidisciplinary teams for discovery, preclinical and clinical development, biomarker and translational research. You will actively interface with the internal and external scientific and technical community. You will have the opportunity to participate in technology evaluations and software/database usage training.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education/Experience:
    • Ph.D., Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biostatistics with 2+ years postdoc and/or industry experience
    General Skills:
    • Proficient with statistical and biological data visualization software tools and methods (such as R/BioConductor)
    • Strong analytical and programming skills
    • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
    • Familiarity with public and commercial biological databases (e.g. NCBI Entrez, NCBI GEO, UCSC Genome Browser, TCGA/caBIG, Oncomine, GeneGo, Ingenuity)
    • Knowledge of cellular and molecular biology, oncology, and drug development processes
    • Self-motivated and capable of working effectively in a team environment
    • Excellent presentation and oral/written communication skills
    • Demonstrated scientific excellence by a strong publication record and/or evidence of scientific initiative
    Analytical Skills:
    • Bioinformatics experience working with high dimensional data, gene expression analysis, survival analysis, and biological network reconstruction/inference
    • Statistical analysis experience with working knowledge of regression analysis, multivariate data analysis, and linear/nonlinear mixed effects modeling
    • Familiarity with classification and machine learning methods
    Computational Skills:
    • Strong R/BioConductor programming skills and scripting language experience (e.g. Perl or Python)
    • Comfortable working in Unix/Linux environment
    • Other high level programming (Java, C++, etc.) and database (e.g. MySQL, Postgres, Oracle) experience a plus
