Opportunity: Systems Engineer- Cloud Computing (#INFO897) @ J. Craig Venter Institute--Rockville, MD (US)

RESPONSIBILITIES
JCVI is looking for a Systems Engineer specializing in cloud computing to establish and drive the creation of test-bed and production systems based on current and future needs of scientific team. The Systems Engineer will be deploying large-scale data analysis pipelines on a cloud / distributed computing environment. This position presents the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary scientific team leading the next generation of bionformatics computing.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline required. Master's degree a plus.
- Two to Four (2-4) years of systems engineering and systems administration experience preferred.
- Specific technical skills and experience to include some combination of the following:
- * Software Development: Python, Perl, Unix shell scripting, Java, C/C++
- * Virtualization and Cloud Systems: Xen, KVM, OpenStack, Eucalyptus, VirtualBox, Vmware
- * Hadoop/HDFS/MapReduce: cluster development, tuning, user support
- * Amazon IaaS cloud computing platform: EC2, S3, SQS, EBS, Elastic MapReduce
- * Systems Administartion: Linux installation, maintenance, upgrade, backup, NFS, TCP/IP networking
- * Operating Systems: Linux (Redhat Enterprise, CentOS, Ubuntu)
- Sun Grid Engine, parallel computing such as MPI will be considered a plus.
- Ability to create and configure Virtual Machines (VMs) with customized software stack according to the needs of the team and support developers.
- Must be able to work as an effective team member.
- Excellent communication skills (oral, presentation, and written) required. Willingness to perform technical presentations to both IT and science departments, contribute to creating technical documentation (including wikis and screencasts) and internal/external user support.
