    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Provide advanced bioinformatics support across campus interdisciplinary research groups and will be involved in the exploitation of large collections of data from both public domain and institutional programs.

    Responsible for support of advanced data visualization services that apply visual analytics techniques to explore and discover correlations between brain function, anatomy, and genetics to biological processes and disease. Must have interest in the interaction of data analysis and what is known in biomedical science areas. This position contributes to advanced data analysis and management in support of faculty research across all UNT Health Science Center schools and colleges. Some independent work and grant projects will be possible as well as inclusion with campus faculty on grants and coauthored papers.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Doctorate degree in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or related discipline with a minimum of two years post-graduate experience.

    Experience:
    • Experience in genomics, high-throughput sequencing, and statistical analysis
    • Experience in the use of advanced data visualization tools and resources such as Tom Sawyer and/or other commercially available software
    • Knowledge of data base design standards and requirements
    • Experience creating and maintaining in-house SOL relational databases, and working with and extracting information from public databases such as NCBI and UCSC genome databases

    PREFERENCES

    • Familiarity with bioinformatics software, such as R/Bioconductor, SAS/JMP Genomics, BioViews, FreeVis, Open DX, Genome Browser, and tools such as Ingenuity IPA
    • Demonstrated knowledge and programming experience in .NET, PERL, C++ and/or Java, and willing to pick up new programming languages as necessary
    • Must be flexible and have a solid background in a mixed Unix-Mae-Windows environment
    • Ability to deliver results in defined time frames and to manage and organize multiple priorities
    • Be able to use independent judgment and advanced problem solving
    • Have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
    • Have excellent team and collaboration skills and orientation
