BACKGROUND
Laboratory of Genetics
Lab research concentrates on the adult central nervous system and unexpected plasticity and adaptability to environmental stimulation that remains throughout the life of all mammals.RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and lab responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Provide general bioinformatics support to researchers and development of tools to visualize and explore complex and extensive bioinformatics data
- Analysis of next generation high-throughput sequencing data (Illumina, IonTorrent, DNA, RNA, ChIP)
- Development of customized analysis pipelines, including read mapping, alignment to reference genomes, Gene Onthology and pathway analysis
- Analysis of array-based genotyping and expression profiling data
- Design and implementation of new analytical algorithms and methods, with opportunity to contribute to open source efforts and scientific publications
- Integration of diverse and heterogeneous data to facilitate data mining, statistical analysis, and interactive visualization
REQUIREMENTS
Education:- PhD in bioinformatics, genomics, computer science, biological sciences or related area required
- A minimum of 3 years experience in bioinformatics software development and research
- Extensive experience in analyzing sequence data from both traditional and next-generation technologies. Practical experience of high throughput data analysis, data management and data integration
- Experience with analysis and handling of large genomic datasets
- Experience in statistics and data mining
- Strong proficiency in standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages, including Perl, Python, Bioconductor as well as knowledge of C/C++, C# or Java required. Experience in Unix or Linux operating systems
- Extensive experience with bioinformatics tools such as BLAST, Bioconductor, UCSC genomic browser, IGV and alignment tools such as BOWTIE, BWA, NOVOALIGN
- Experience with molecular biology, genomics and detailed understanding of publicly available genomic databases(e.g., NCBI, ENSEMBL,PUBMED)
- Experience with design of bioinformatics algorithms and database structures
- Experience with Biostatistics (Bioconductor)
PREFERENCES
- Experience in gene expression analysis, statistics, protein structure and modeling packages is preferred.
