    Associate Director - Bioinformatics

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology has an opening for a dynamic and innovative scientist to take a leadership role. Application areas of particular interest include oncology, neurobiology, immunology and microbial pathogenesis. Genentech Research fosters a culture of scientific investigation and publication. The department has extensive resources for computational support and data analysis. Candidates will use well developed research plans to take advantage of newer technologies such as DNA-seq, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, proteomics or metabolomics. Areas of particular interest are novel variant discovery, biomarker discover and data integration.

    REQUIREMENTS

    This position requires a PhD in a life or computer science related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of progressive career development in the area of Bioinformatics. The ideal candidate will have experience in both building and managing high performing teams. Innovative scientific insight and vision, strong analytical capabilities and a strong interest in drug discovery and development will be required of the successful candidate.

    Candidates should have a strong record of developing and publishing computational methods with a focus on human disease. Candidates must have excellent communication skills as well as the ability to build and manage teams. He/she should have a record of collaborative research. A strong commitment to the development and maintenance of software infrastructure necessary to support a large organization is also required.
