    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS) is looking for a Health IT Analyst to provide technical assistance to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) for the development, review and implementation of business systems solutions necessary in support of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act and the redesign of the Medicare Patient Safety Monitoring System (MPSMS).

    The successful candidate will coordinate, assist, and interface with federal employees at AHRQ, other federal agencies, and contractors involved with the development of business systems and tools for implementation of the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act and MPSMS. It is expected that most of this work will occur onsite at AHRQ in Rockville, MD.
    • Assist with the development and review of requirements, technical specifications, and test plans to provide integration and interoperability of data between health care providers, government agencies and Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs).
    • Support the ongoing development and refinement of AHRQ's Common Formats and the revision of MPSMS by working with an interdisciplinary team to define and review language, logic, metadata, reporting, data exchanges and file formats for integration.
    • Support the operation and maintenance of operational SSS systems through requirements gathering, working with SSS developers, testing, and training end users.
    • Collaborate with AHRQ, other federal agencies, and federal contractors to define business objectives, functional requirements, and technical requirements for the development of new business systems solutions.
    • Work with patient safety data and legal experts to assist with resolving issues related to data integrity, security, confidentiality, and privacy related to the PSO team activities, Patient Safety Act, and MPSMS.
    • Provide technical assistance and expert guidance to PSOs, federal agencies and contractors, and the public on the PSO and Common Formats programs.
    • Present at conferences and meetings as requested by AHRQ.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree in nursing, health care management, or physical science/engineering field
    • Minimum of 5 years of business and healthcare IT systems analysis, ideally in a healthcare environment, is required.
    • Prefer previous project management experience in a variety of health care settings; prior authoring of functional specifications a must.
    • Knowledge of the patient care setting and clinical practice by either profession or experience.
    • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, abstract technical information to less experienced users at all levels of management including physicians.
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams comprised of members with varied reporting hierarchies of from different organizations
    • Experience working in a dynamic environment with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
