The successful candidate will join the Biological Systems Research Team at Philip Morris Products S.A. in Neuchatel, Switzerland. He/she will play a major role in the analysis of large scale data sets from various post-genomic technologies together with the practical application of this knowledge in the fields of cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic obstructive lung diseases.
Specifically, you will:- Have significant experience of array-based and sequencing analysis
- Apply Systems Biology approaches to improve our understanding of gene regulation at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational level in specific tissues in order to identify molecular pathways deregulated in disease
- Apply and develop methods for systems wide analysis of gene expression patterns, their transcription factors and epigenetic controls,
- Investigate the role of small RNAs in regulation of gene/protein products which differentiate normal and diseased states
- Use your knowledge to contribute to the systematic design of in-vitro and in-vivo genomics and proteomics experiments.
- Test model-driven hypotheses in in-vitro and in-vivo systems by interfacing with clinical and laboratory scientists.
- Have well developed scientific writing and critical review skills essential for production of concise project reports which represent a coherent synthesis of the biology of the experimental system.
REQUIREMENTS
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical genetics with a very strong background in toxicology (demonstrated track record) – or – PhD in Toxicology (or related discipline), with a demonstrated track record in analysis and interpretation of molecular toxicology data, specifically, high density gene expression data.
- Demonstrated experience in disease pathways, network biology or pharmacogenomics
- Preferably, you also have knowledge in the fields of inflammation, cardiovascular disease and/or cancer
- Track record in experimental design of systems biology studies
- Solid expertise in R/Bioconductor or MATLAB would be a plus
- Demonstrated experience in managing and interpreting large biological data sets
- Fluency in written and spoken English is a must
