    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will join the Biological Systems Research Team at Philip Morris Products S.A. in Neuchatel, Switzerland and will play a major role in the interpretation of large scale data sets from various post-genomic technologies to define the biological networks that may be activated in smoking-related disease. Using newly developed software tools the candidate will interrogate systems biology datasets to discover biological networks that may be able to differentiate between normal and diseased states, and which could have practical applications in a clinical context.
    His/Her scientific background and ability to critically review biological facts will be essential to develop a coherent synthesis of the biology being modeled.

    Specifically, you will:
    • Provide interpretation of large scale array-based data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics) related to the cell signaling pathways involved in distinct disease processes
    • Have a strong affinity for hypothesis development and testing in a collaborative research environment
    • Design novel experimental approaches to perturb biological systems in order to uncover network interaction principles and cellular functions
    • Have well developed scientific writing and critical review skills that are essential for the production of concise, project reports which represent a coherent synthesis of the biology of the experimental system

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in cell biology/biochemistry/molecular biology, bioinformatics or an MD with a strong research background
    • Previous experience in disease pathways and network biology as well as experience in inflammation, COPD and cancer biology
    • Aptitude for using biological databases and functional genomics analysis tools
    • Demonstrated experience in managing and interpreting large biological data sets.
    • Experience in a project-oriented, deadline-driven team environment
    • Fluency in both written and spoken English is a must
    A valid Swiss work permit or Swiss or EU-25/EFTA citizenship is required for this position.

    COMPENSATION

    You will be part of the PMI Research & Development Department, whose primary mission is to research and develop new products with the potential to reduce the risks of smoking-related diseases.

    You will work in a highly skilled multi-cultural team environment, interacting closely with other disease experts, as well as computational biologists, mathematicians, and experimental scientists.
