The successful candidate will join the Biological Systems Research Unit of Philip Morris Products S.A. in Neuchatel, Switzerland and will be responsible for the generation of high quality microarray data from in vitro, in vivo and clinical samples.
This also includes improvement of current methods and validation of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in order to support the development of new products with the potential to reduce the risks of smoking-related diseases.
Specifically, you will:- Design and execute Affymetrix microarray data generation workflows
- Oversee Affymetrix microarray projects conducted in the lab
- Maintain, troubleshoot and perform day-to-day work on Affymetrix microarray catridge and GeneTitan equipment
- Develop and improve RNA extraction protocols from cell lines, tissues, microdissected cells as well as depleted serum
- Analyze current process procedures and provide feedback for their optimization and improvement, documenting processes and improvements to methods
- Perform the Quality Control of the microarray raw data
- Consult on research projects with other laboratories
- Develop, assess and adapt new technologies, protocols and software
- Supervise and train laboratory technicians
- Conduct other laboratory work as needed
- Contribute to the writing of project proposals and manuscripts describing the methods
REQUIREMENTS
- Completed education as a laboratory technician (Federal Certificate of Capacity or BSc) in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field plus seven years of laboratory experience in nucleic acid research is required
- At least three years of practical experience with Affymetrix GeneChip Systems for array cartridges
- Prior experience with GeneTitan Systems for array plates
- Solid knowledge of molecular biology equipment and related protocols (including RNA and DNA preparation, RNA and DNA quantification, hybridization, qRT-PCR, multiplex amplification and bead-based solutions)
- At ease with quality systems and database management (LIMS)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Previous experience as a lead technician or research scientist in a molecular biology laboratory would be considered a plus
- Experience with bioinformatics analysis is a plus
- Fluency in English
- Good general laboratory and organizational skills
