    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will join the Biological Systems Research Unit of Philip Morris Products S.A. in Neuchatel, Switzerland and will be responsible for the generation of high quality sequencing data from in vitro, in vivo and clinical samples.

    This also includes improvement of current methods and validation of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in order to support the development of new products with the potential to reduce the risks of smoking-related diseases.

    Specifically, you will:
    • Maintain, troubleshoot and perform day-to-day work on the Sequencing equipment (e.g. Illumina HiSeq2000)
    • Carry out procedures associated with DNA sequencing on the Illumina Sequencer platform; including DNA library preparation, sample quantification & preparation, and Sequencer operation
    • Implement Next Gen sequencing applications for genomic DNA, targeted capture, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, small RNA-seq, and bisulfite sequencing
    • Analyze current process procedures and provide feedback for their optimization and improvement, documenting processes and improvements to methods
    • Perform the Quality Control of the samples and the sequencing raw data
    • Consult on research projects with other laboratories
    • Develop, assess and adapt new technologies, protocols, and software
    • Conduct other laboratory work as needed
    • Contribute to the writing of project proposals and manuscripts describing the methods

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Completed education as a laboratory technician (Federal Certificate of Capacity or BSc) in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field plus laboratory experience in nucleic acid research is required
    • Two to three years of demonstrated experience with Next Generation Sequencing instruments (Illumina preferred)
    • Solid knowledge of molecular biology equipment and related protocols (including RNA and DNA preparation, RNA and DNA quantification, hybridization, PCR, multiplex amplification and bead-based solutions).
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Previous experience as a senior technician in a molecular biology laboratory would be considered a plus
    • Experience with bioinformatics analysis is a plus
    • Fluency in English

    A valid Swiss work permit or Swiss or EU-25/EFTA citizenship is required for this position.
