    BACKGROUND

Boehringer Ingelheim ranks among the world's 20 leading pharmaceutical corporations. Our vision drives us forward. It helps us to foster value creation through innovation in our company and to look to the future with constantly renewed commitment and ambition. Boehringer Ingelheim RCV Vienna is home to Boehringer Ingelheim's dedicated drug discovery center for innovative cancer medicines.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will support a spectrum of projects ranging from early target discovery and target validation to advanced drug discovery projects in preclinical and early clinical development. A key aspect will be cancer biomarker discovery with the aim to predict and understand genotype- and transcriptome-dependent differential responses to novel targeted therapies. This includes the utilization of genomics data delivered by next generation sequencing, expression arrays and SNP-chips. Correlation studies of genetic/genomic data with chemo-sensitivity profiling screens derived from large cancer cell line panels form the basis for the discovery of predictive response biomarkers. Furthermore, mechanism-of-action studies as well as the elucidation of drug-induced resistance mechanisms are additional areas of interest.

    REQUIREMENTS

The candidate should have a PhD degree with postdoctoral experience (preferred) in biology, bioinformatics, or in a related discipline with a proven record in genomics data analysis. You should be comfortable in handling large datasets and be able to identify and implement computationally efficient data processing strategies in a linux environment. A sound understanding of cancer biology is highly desired and the ability to translate and communicate results is essential.
