Opportunity: Postdoctoral Fellowship in BIOINFORMATICS @ UNLV--Las Vegas, NV (US)

DESCRIPTION
Grasp this position as part of a leadership team in rapidly growing research laboratory with a multi-university team of Bioinformaticians and laboratory scientists. The overriding goal of our laboratory is to model and integrate petabytes of biological information as the basis for development of new software tools to better understand and treat human disease (see Bio-toolkit.com for examples). Meet visiting scientists, co-author scientific publications, and tell your grandchildren that you were part of engineering new medicines. The candidate will leverage their creativity and expertise choosing their own focus from a number of ongoing projects including discovery of new drugs in HIV, the role of minimotifs in human diversity and disease, and a program that uses database mining to create new hypotheses about the cause of any human disease. RESPONSIBILITIES
Training and oversight of student programmers, assist with preparation of manuscripts and grant applications, and creation of software tools using Perl, JAVA and SQL relational databases.
Reports to: Principal Investigator
REQUIREMENTS
B.S. and Ph.D degree in bioinformatics, computer science or related field, or equivalent commercial experience, 1 year experience with MySQL. Programming in JAVA is desirable. Applicants must have at least one publication where they are first or last author. Familiarity with basic Molecular and Cellular Biology is required. Experience with Structural Biology and Biophysics is a plus.
COMPENSATION
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Minimum starting salary of $37,000 / year. Nevada also has no state income tax and individuals working for UNLV are not required to pay social security tax. This is a ~15% cost of living boost over jobs in other states. Job comes with other benefits a well.
