    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Employee will conduct novel bioinformatics research in genomics and proteomics using advanced machine learning & statistical approaches. This person will also develop data mining algorithms for large scale data mining projects.

    40% - Conduct novel bioinformatics research in genomics & proteomics using advanced machine learning and statistical approaches. Activities include analyzing and mining public and in-house genomics and proteomics data and discovering patterns relevant to the biological problems under study.

    40% - Develop novel data mining algorithms for large scale data mining projects. Duties include developing computer programs for biological and/or chemical data classification, regression and clustering analysis. Research may focus on next generation sequencing and/or protein sequence/structure mining.

    20% - Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Possible duties may include supervising graduate and/or undergraduate students, developing and maintaining databases, and other tasks relevant to research and education.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in bioinformatics, computer science or other closely related discipline.
    • 3 yrs experience in scientific programming using one or more of the following languages: Java, Perl, C/C++
    • Ability to perform bioinformatics or computational biology research, as shown by being the primary author of at least two peer-reviewed publications in these fields
    • 3 yrs experience in applying statistical and/or data mining techniques to research problems using R and/or Matlab software packages

    PREFERENCES

    • Evidence of ability to work independently with attention to detail
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team-based environment
    • Good communication and writing skills
    • Experience in next generation sequencing data analysis or protein structure/sequence mining

    TERMS

    Minimum 1 year position with option for renewal.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary: $33,000 - $35,000 plus full benefits package
