BACKGROUND
The Infectious Disease Epidemiology Research Group in the Academic Unit of Clinical and Experimental Sciences wishes to appoint a Senior Bioinformatician to undertake the analysis of whole genome sequence data for a large microbiology study. The research group is based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital.RESPONSIBILITIES
The postholder will initiate, conduct and publish original research in the field of microbial genomics. It is expected that the postholder will collaborate internally and externally on relevant projects and be responsible for the creation and maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines.REQUIREMENTS
Applications are invited from those with a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a relevant area such as molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, microbial genomics, or microbial phylogenetics.PREFERENCES
Applicants are expected to have substantial experience of planning, developing and carrying out analyses (including data handling and annotation) of microbial genome sequences. A growing and consistent national, and preferably international, reputation in microbial genomics is expected. Applicants are expected to identify sources of research funding and secure funds at an early stage.TERMS
This is a fixed term post for 3 years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.LOCALE
