    BACKGROUND

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal childhood diseases, including cancer and certain blood, genetic, and immunodeficiency disorders. The hospital's mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude is dedicated to providing unsurpassed patient care and to advancing the health of children through biomedical research.

    Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Bioinformatics Research Scientist (Job Number 30120).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Bioinformatics Research Scientist in the Computational Biology Department takes a lead role in data mining, data visualization, statistical analysis, experimental design, and database development. Provides help with databases, software, and computational resources used in bioinformatics analysis to researchers in the disease, biotechnology, and statistical fields. Trains investigators and new users to use bioinformatics applications and databases. May act as project manager of designated research computing applications. Provides project oversight, scientific advice, programming support, or other necessary input to achieve established objectives. Develops independent bioinformatics research projects. Ensures that efficient and prompt help is provided to the SJCRH investigators.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, or related field plus three (3) years of postdoctoral and/or job experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research is required.
    • Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, C++, SQL or Java required.

    PREFERENCES

    • Preferred skills: Sequence analysis, microarray data analysis and scripting experience using R or a comparable statistics package preferred.
    • Experience with large-scale data analysis preferred. Experience with pathways, comparative genomics, SNP or structural biology is preferred.
