BACKGROUND
DSM Food Specialties (DFS) develops, produces, market ingredients and processing aids for the Dairy, Baking, Beverage, Cultures, Test & Preservation, Savoury and Nutritional Markets.
As of January 1st, 2011 the Business Group consists of the Business Units Enzymes Solutions, Cultures, Specialties, Savory Ingredients and Hydrocolloids, the DSM Biotechnology Center and a number of staff departments and excellence centers.
The DSM Biotechnology Center (DBC) in Delft is the primary location for biotechnological Research and Development for the innovation-driven company DSM. DBC develops new and improved products, in particular for the Business Units DSM Food Specialties, DSM Anti-Infectives, DSM Nutritional Products and for the Emerging Business Areas Bio-based Products & Services and Specialty Packaging.
The Genetics Department is part of the DBC and serves the different businesses by delivering new and improved strains for the production of biocatalysts and bioproducts by means of classical and GMO strain development and (HT) screening technology.

(Associate) Scientist BioinformaticsRESPONSIBILITIES
The Challenge:
As (Associate) Scientist Bioinformatics you will represent the bioinformatics discipline within multi-disciplinary DBC project teams. Your challenge will be to model and (re)design metabolic pathways to facilitate the development of new products and improved microbial production strains and processes. From your home base in the Department of Genetics of DSM Biotechnology Center, you will participate in the application and development of metabolic pathway engineering tools and bioinformatics methods.REQUIREMENTS
The Ideal:
We are looking for professionals with an academic (PhD) in Bioinformatics, Metabolic engineering or Bioprocess modeling. Preferably, you have experience in metabolic pathway modeling / engineering with applications to microbial strain development or fermentation processes. Furthermore, you are a multidisciplinary team player, who takes initiative with good communication. Personal skills like problem analysis, judgment, creativity, leadership, adaptability characterize your identity.
