    BACKGROUND

    The Computer Science (CS) department and research laboratory (LaBRI) at University of Bordeaux are seeking candidates for a faculty position at the level of associate professor (Maitre de Conferences).

    LaBRI hosts all computer science research related activities on the Bordeaux campus while the computer science department is responsible for running all teaching activities taking place within the science faculty. All candidates with an excellent research record will be considered, devoting special attention to:
    • The quality of their research agenda and insertion in the local Bio-informatics and Visualization team (MABioVis)
    • Their insertion within the computer science teaching faculty
    However, all candidate with outstanding research record should consider applying, even if their profile does not perfectly fit the above expectations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Research. Candidates are expected to join the MABioVis team, showing special interest for the following sub-teams:
    • Biological structures and sequences comparison and modeling
    • Comparative genomics, modeling and analysis of biological data

    Teaching. Candidates are expected to teach at all levels (undergraduate and graduate), and actively participate to all teaching activities (defining and supervizing term projects, e.g) and administrative duties.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The most urgent needs are listed here, with the first three items sitting at the core competencies of any computer expert nowadays:
    • Programming (functional, symbolic, object oriented). The programming languages used vary between programs and levels. General audience teaching (computer science introduction and training C2i) is also taken in charge by the CS department.
    • Networks, with special focus on Internet protocols, and the design and development of web applications.
    • Database management systems: massive data is now an everyday challenge, technology will inevitably shape tomorrow's society. The design and management of database systems, as well as distributed architectures are taught at all levels.
    • Graphics, with special focus on 3D, is offered to 3rd year undergraduates as well at master's student within the "Image, Sound, Video" program.
