    BACKGROUND

    Zymeworks Inc. is a Canadian computational biotechnology company developing and utilizing predictive computational technology for the design of next-generation antibody-based therapeutics in the treatment of cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.     Zymeworks is looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist. The primary responsibility of the Bioinformatics Scientist will be divided between the application of bioinformatics analysis towards protein engineering and the development of algorithms and tools for this purpose. He/she will be responsible for supporting molecular modeling and simulations efforts for protein engineering with relevant information derived from bioinformatics. We are looking for an exceptionally talented scientist with the passion and drive to grow within this progressive and developing company.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Take a lead role in application of bioinformatics in protein-therapeutics optimization projects
    • Develop and implement innovative data mining and bioinformatics approaches for rational protein engineering
    • Work closely with protein engineers, computational chemists and the software development team
    • Participate in the preparation of patents and publications

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in Bioinformatics
    • At least 2 years of either industrial or academic research experience in the area of antibody informatics
    • Experience in structural bioinformatics: 3D structure alignments, super-positioning and analysis of structural databases
    • Strong understanding of protein structures, folds, families, conservation and prediction
    • Experience in sequence databases, alignments, scoring methods and mutational analysis
    • Hands on development experience with at least two different machine learning algorithms
    • Experience in statistical data analysis and data mining techniques
    • Knowledgeable in various aspects of immune informatics
    • Experience of antibody humanization will be an asset
    • Demonstrated programming and development experience, preferably in Python and R
    • Proficiency with the Linux operating system
    • Demonstrated ability to participate in collaborative scientific projects
    • Good organizational skills and outstanding communication skills (written/spoken English).

    COMPENSATION

    Compensation is on par with industry standards and commensurate with experience and includes an extended benefits plan and participation in the employee stock-option plan.
