    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Your efforts will address critical challenges in our nation's security and intelligence programs.

    Working within our multidisciplinary team of life and computer scientists, you will address the integration of informatics specific to life science research domains. You will analyze, characterize and provide guidance to the client and to a team of scientists using your knowledge in the biological sciences and informatics. The data sets are diverse and include sequences and sequence annotation, transcription/translation and protein pathways. The research goals include biomarker discovery, drug target identification and medical countermeasure analysis.

    You will evaluate existing tools and repositories, perform gap analysis, and, as a team member, help develop and demonstrate novel integration methodologies through proof of concept testing or prototyping.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in Computer Science or related field with at least 6 years post graduate intensive experience in bioinformatics; or MS with appropriate experience
    • Formal coursework or the equivalent in data structures, algorithm design, object oriented languages and relational databases
    • Ability to apply technical and analytical skills to create innovative solutions to scientific and technical problems within a multidisciplinary team
    • Ability to collaborate with extramural researchers and interpret, synthesize, and report findings to a wide audience
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and build collegial relationships

    PREFERENCES

    Previous experience working for, or in support of, the Federal Government or DoD is strongly preferred. Broad experience with bioinformatics repositories and tools across life science domains is strongly desired. Understanding of issues and data in bench biology is helpful.
