Bioinformatics Analyst Position Available at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

The Bioinformatics Shared Resource is seeking an Informatics Analyst with a track record of success in bioinformatics who will provide a broad range of bioinformatics support, from biological database development to microarray and next generation sequencing based analysis projects. Projects would include, but are not limited to, data mining, integration of diverse data sets, development of novel algorithms to analyze large data sets, development of mathematical models, and development of novel scientific visualization tools. The Scientific Informatics Analyst will meet regularly with scientists at CSHL to discuss projects, offer advice, provide analysis services and contribute to publications related to the work performed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities will include development of novel tools for statistical data analysis, scripting web-based interfaces that allow users to perform their own analyses, development of best-practice pipelines for bioinformatic analysis of NGS data, and training others in the use of these tools.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong background in biology & Bioinformatics required, with either a PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics or Computer Science, or a Masters in one of these fields with 4+ years of experience in Bioinformatics. Must be able to work efficiently and independently and must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in the Linux/Unix environments is required. Experience in the statistical analysis of sequencing data is required. Expertise with multiple scripting/programming languages C/Fortran, Perl/Python, R, Java) is required. Experience with existing bioinformatics tools, database and software is required, and experience with database development (SQL) is a plus.
