Opportunity: COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST - RNAi Platform (#786) @ Broad Institute--Cambridge, MA (US)
Submitted by Laura Bonfitto; posted on Thursday, June 21, 2012
RESPONSIBILITIES
COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGIST, Broad Institute-The RNAi Consortium (TRC), RNAi Platform and Cancer Program, to create and implement novel algorithms for functional genomics analysis based on the biological effect of suppressing genes through RNA interference (RNAi) and other perturbations. The RNAi Platform and collaborators have generated a number of large scale and unprecedented data sets measuring the effects of gene perturbations in mammalian cells. These data can serve as the basis for computational investigation into functional genomics, regulatory networks and pathway analyses. Examples of research areas include new methods to understand the phenotypic data collected from RNAi screens at the level of networks and pathways, integrating functional and structural genomic datasets, and computationally modeling the effects of on- and off-target knockdown of genes. These and related questions will be pursued in collaboration with scientists and computational biologists in the RNAi Platform and the Cancer Program. Position offers the unique opportunity to apply cutting-edge computational approaches to biological and biomedical research on a scale and depth not available in any other setting.
REQUIREMENTS
PhD in computational biology, physical science, applied mathematics or demonstrable equivalent research experience and experience modeling large-scale data sets. Proficiency with Python, Jython, Java, relational databases, SQL, statistics tools such as MATLAB or R desired. Should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
