    BACKGROUND

    The Lynch Laboratory at University of California San Francisco is seeking a Research Technician or Specialist with strong data analysis skills and a familiarity with relational databases.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities include: (1) writing scripts for multi-dimensional data analyses, (2) using existing bioinformatics tools and pipelines to analyze microarray and deep-sequencing data sets, (3) data visualization (4) maintaining and improving lab databases. The incumbent will interact with multiple laboratory members in the analyses of data from wet-bench experiments, primarily focused on microbiome research. The position also allows for development of independent projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Requirements include at least a BS degree in an appropriate field of science or technology and one or more years of related research experience utilizing techniques/methods required by the position or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required skills are: ability to setup and administer a UNIX-like operating system; ability to write scripts for 'gluing together' existing programs and analyzing data (e.g. in perl, python, R, Matlab, C, C++, or Java); ability to create relational databases for managing lab data (e.g. in MySQL or PostgreSQL). In addition, demonstrated interpersonal/ scheduling /prioritization skills, ability to work independently, productively and to exhibit initiative in problem solving are essential.

    PREFERENCES

    Experience with microbiome data (microarray or sequence-based) is a plus.

    TERMS

    One year renewable contract based on productivity

    LOCALE

    Position will be based at the Parnassus campus of UCSF in San Francisco.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary is commensurate with experience.
