    BACKGROUND

    Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the world's leading centers in biomedical research. The research activities are focused around understanding the function of human genes and how genetic pathways and environmental factors lead to the development of human diseases. The research programs at SLRI make extensive use of genomics, proteomics and related technologies. A Bioinformatics Analyst position is available at the Lunenfeld with a focus on investigation of cancer and stem cell biology. This is an excellent opportunity to conduct cutting-edge bioinformatics research, develop novel methodologies and apply bioinformatics tools in a multidisciplinary setting.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct cutting edge biological network research
    • Perform RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data analysis and data mining
    • Develop custom applications to support research activities of the group
    • Manage high-throughput data storage and backup
    • Manage computational assets (maintenance, inventory, hardware upgrades, software purchasing)
    • Manage the IT outsourcing activities
    • Provide bioinformatics support to Dynemo Biosystems startup company

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • M.S. degree in bioinformatics, molecular biology, physics, computer science or related discipline with 3+ years of bioinformatics research experience
    • Familiarity with RNA-seq and ChIP-seq data analysis pipelines
    • Experience with Perl and Python scripting
    • Experience with Object Oriented programming languages (C/C++, JAVA)
    • Experience working with Protein Interaction and Cell Signaling Networks
    • Experience with machine learning algorithms and scientific computing environments such as MATLAB and R
    • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize
    • Ability to quickly learn new techniques and methods and come up with custom computational solutions
    • Great written and verbal communication skills

    COMPLIMENTARY REQUIREMENTS

    • Experience with UNIX and cluster computing
    • Web development with HTML, PHP and Flash
    • Designing and implementing relational databases with mySQL.
    • Understanding of Graph Theory concepts and methods
    • iPad mobile application development
    • System administration experience
