Opportunity: Unix Systems Administrator -- BIOINFORMATICS (#1200) @ Rothamsted Research -- Harpenden/London, UK

BACKGROUND
Rothamsted Research, the UK's oldest and largest agricultural research centre, is seeking a Unix systems administrator to manage and develop its Unix based scientific systems for its research programmes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This post will be working with researchers across the Institute to understand their requirements for data storage and processing; supporting scientific software deployment and maintenance while working closely with the computing support team to ensure full integration with existing IS/IT infrastructure.
A key are of responsibility will be working with the Bioinformatics team, developing and supporting our newly acquired high capacity storage and compute infrastructure.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have a Degree in Computer Science or related field, plus extensive related experience. Experience with UNIX server administration (RedHat/Centos) servers in an academic environment and knowledge of wider IT tasks (networking, security) are highly desirable. Working experience of high performance computing and a strong interest in scientific computing would also be desirable.
Additionally they will have excellent communication skills, ability to document procedures, provide guidance to researchers at all levels and be able to lead the planning and deployment of new research computing services.
TERMS
This is an indefinite post. Not limited term.
COMPENSATION
The starting salary would normally be in the range of GBP 35,694 to GBP 39,822 per annum.
