    BACKGROUND

    The Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (SBMRI) was founded in 1976 and is one of the largest non-profit biomedical research facilities in the country. At the forefront of basic biomedical science, the Institute has made major contributions to the betterment of health and the human condition.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We currently have available a number of Research Programmer positions to join our team in La Jolla, California:

    Under general guidance, the Research Programmer IV/Biological Database Programmer will be responsible for developing, managing, and leading multiple on-going databases and related projects and systems in a scientific laboratory.

    Will work in an interdisciplinary group responsible for the data management and analysis core for a large, multicenter biological project. Will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of the central database for the project including performing data validation, manipulation and testing; ensuring accuracy of data and reports; and developing complex database queries and reports; work within a diverse team of immunology specialists to develop and implement sophisticated data storage strategies; troubleshoot or modify policies and procedures as needed; and other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Information Systems, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of directly related, cumulative experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Candidates with a master's degree, 6 years of experience required.

    Must have a demonstrated in-depth and expert-level knowledge and understanding of relational databases, as well as directly-related experience in database design and programming while working in collaboration with scientific teams. Requires expert knowledge of SQL language (Oracle, MySQL), and advanced knowledge of application development using programming languages (Java, JavaScript, HTML, PHP and XML.

    Requires a professional demeanor, strong analytical skills, excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively interact with individuals from various cultures and backgrounds.
