BACKGROUND

The Consulting Team in the NERSC User Services Group is the primary point of contact between the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) and scientific users of the Center. NERSC is a world leader in accelerating scientific discovery through computation, providing high-performance computing, data storage and analysis tools and expertise to researchers. NERSC is currently seeking a candidate to join the Consulting Team to support the High Energy and Nuclear Physics community on the systems supported by NERSC. The Parallel Distributed System Facility (PDSF) is a commodity Linux cluster used to analyze data from detectors around the world including the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Lab, and the Daya Bay power plants in China. The PDSF system has been in continuous operation for over 15 years and includes over 1600 compute cores interconnected with 10 Gigabit Ethernet and includes over 1PB of disk. High Energy and Nuclear Physics users may also run on the other NERSC computing platforms noted here: (http://www.nersc.gov/users/computational-systems/).

RESPONSIBILITIES

The NERSC consultants are responsible for enhancing the scientific productivity of users through: problem management; code and workflow optimization, debugging and scaling; strategic project support; documentation; training; third-party applications and library support; resource and workload analysis; user communication and requirements gathering. Consultants also play a key role in establishing center direction through evaluating and recommending high-end computing technology and software.
