    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an enthusiastic individual to work in a rapidly evolving research lab to create world-class software. This new member will work with researchers to create unique and impactful applications that will further the understanding of genetic diseases.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Education: BS/MS/Phd degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, or related field or equivalent technical experience

    Minimum Job Experience Required: Five+ years of experience in software design and development; seven+ years experience of object-oriented design, coding and testing patterns
    • Experience with relational databases (both transactional and non-transactional), database architecture
    • Ability to develop multi-tier scalable, performant and reliable applications that operate 24x7
    • Ability to build Java web applications and services, working with relevant tools (IDEs, ant, junit, etc.)
    • Must be able to meet deadline commitments on time and produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills who can work in an agile/iterative development team

    PREFERENCES

    • Ability to evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
    • Technology environment: Java, Google Web Toolkit, Hibernate, Moab, jQuery, MySQL/Oracle, Perl, Python, Tomcat, Archiva, Maven, svn, RESTful services
