RESPONSIBILITIES

The Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an enthusiastic individual to work in a rapidly evolving research lab to create world-class software. This new member will work with researchers to create unique and impactful applications that will further the understanding of genetic diseases.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education: BS/MS/Phd degree in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, or related field or equivalent technical experience

Minimum Job Experience Required: Five+ years of experience in software design and development; seven+ years experience of object-oriented design, coding and testing patterns

Experience with relational databases (both transactional and non-transactional), database architecture
Ability to develop multi-tier scalable, performant and reliable applications that operate 24x7
Ability to build Java web applications and services, working with relevant tools (IDEs, ant, junit, etc.)
Must be able to meet deadline commitments on time and produce high quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration.
Strong communication and collaboration skills who can work in an agile/iterative development team

PREFERENCES

Ability to evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
Technology environment: Java, Google Web Toolkit, Hibernate, Moab, jQuery, MySQL/Oracle, Perl, Python, Tomcat, Archiva, Maven, svn, RESTful services
