    BACKGROUND

    Berg Biosystems is a Boston based company that employs a novel approach to systems biology and utilizes systems engineering and bioinformatic modules to cross-validate biological output. The Berg Biosystems Interrogative Biology™ Drug Discovery Platform allows for rapid and precise identification of therapeutic and biomarker candidates for drug discovery and development. The company uses network biology templates to mine disease pathophysiology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Research Informatics team is seeking a highly motivated, experienced individual with diverse background. The candidate will be instrumental in development and application of novel bioinformatics tools for analysis of molecular data. The candidate will work closely with the disease biology teams on experimental design and data acquisition. He or she will lead development of data analysis pipelines and implementation of data driven statistical models of critical biological pathways in a variety of disease areas. The ideal candidate should have solid scientific training in one of the relevant disciplines and is strongly goal oriented with a focus on real world impact. The candidate should also be a quick learner, extremely flexible and able to adapt to needs of internal collaborators.

    Responsibilities:
    • Expansion of the computational engine of the Berg Functional Toxicomics™ platform
    • Development and execution of data analysis protocols to support company's discovery pipeline
    • Statistical and bioinformatics analyses of high-throughput molecular data
    • Design of scientific studies with clear goals and deliverables
    • Presentation of scientific results internally and externally
    • Preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts for review and publication

    REQUIREMENTS

    Ph.D. in bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics or computer science. Proficiency in R or Matlab. Experience in Bioconductor is preferred. Experience scripting in PERL/Python and MySQL is preferred. Good written and presentation skills required in addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record keeping. In addition, proven track record of scientific publications is preferred.
