BACKGROUND
Berg Biosystems is a Boston based company that employs a novel approach to systems biology and utilizes systems engineering and bioinformatic modules to cross-validate biological output. The Berg Biosystems Interrogative Biology™ Drug Discovery Platform allows for rapid and precise identification of therapeutic and biomarker candidates for drug discovery and development. The company uses network biology templates to mine disease pathophysiology.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Informatics team is seeking a highly motivated individual with background in Statistics or Clinical Biostatistics. The candidate's role is to oversee experimental design and perform statistical analysis of pre-clinical studies and biomarker proof-of-concept validation at Berg Biosystems and clinical validation studies at Berg Diagnostics. The candidate will work across company divisions to ensure rigor and consistency in planning and execution of experimental protocols. The ideal candidate should have solid training in basic statistics and machine learning and is strongly goal oriented with a focus on real world impact. The candidate is also a quick learner, extremely flexible and able to adapt to the business needs and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Design pre-clinical animal trials and execute statistical analyses of the observed outcomes
- Perform data analysis for company's pipeline of biomarker candidates and develop protocols and workflows to streamline biomarker vetting and triage
- Develop score functions and/or classification algorithms for biomarker panels
- Design clinical validation studies for candidate biomarkers
- Perform statistical analyses for clinical validation biomarker studies and assist in publication of study results
- Present results internally and externally
REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics, or M.S. in statistics with 1+ years of industry or academic experience in machine learning and classification. Proficiency in R. Experience in Bioconductor is preferred. Good written and presentation skills required in addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate attention to detail and record keeping. Experience in developing diagnostic algorithms or classifiers is preferred.
